About the Event

Agriculture is the primary source of livelihood for about 58% of India’s population. The Indian food industry is poised for huge growth, increasing its contribution to world food trade every year due to its immense potential for value addition, particularly within the food processing sector.

The Indian food processing industry accounts for 32% of the country’s total food market. It is one of the largest industries in India and is ranked fifth in terms of production, consumption, export, and expected growth. To boost innovation and entrepreneurship in agriculture, the Government of India is introducing a new AGRI-UDAAN program to mentor start-ups and help them connect with potential investors.

Event Highlights

The agriculture sector in India is expected to gain better momentum in the next few years due to increased investments in agricultural infrastructure, such as irrigation facilities, warehousing, and cold storage. Furthermore, the growing use of farm mechanization and new varieties of crops are likely to improve yields for Indian farmers. India is expected to become self-sufficient in pulses, oilseeds, maize, and other crops in the coming years.

Southern India is a major agricultural hub, producing a diverse range of crops due to its favorable climate and fertile soil. Key crops include rice, the staple food crop in states like Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, along with sugarcane, cotton, and tobacco as important cash crops. Groundnut and soybean are significant oilseeds, while bananas, coconut, and mangoes are widely cultivated, especially in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka. The region is also known for its spice production, including black pepper, cardamom, and chili. Coffee and tea are grown in the Western Ghats, particularly in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Maize, pulses and various fruits and vegetables are cultivated for both domestic consumption and export. These crops not only support the region’s economy but also contribute to India’s agricultural diversity and global market presence.

In line with the efforts of the Indian Government, the Media Today Group is organizing AGRITECH INDIA 2026— the 17th International Exhibition on Agriculture, Farm Machinery, Dairy, Poultry, Livestock & Agri Processing Technology—in Bengaluru, India, from August 21-23, 2026. This event will bring more value additions to the existing technology from around the world.
